by Shengan Gu
Have you ever taken part in a cultural celebration ceremony? The 16th Annual American Powwow took place last weekend, from 1p.m to 7p.m, April 4th and 5th at Kibbie Dome on the University of Idaho campus.
This is to celebrate a successful hunt. Native American tribes celebrate by singing and dancing. There were about 30 dancers 10 natives playing the drum. there were no standard moves, just being creative when they were dancing. This whole celebration was marvelous and wonderful. James, one of the Powwow dancers, said, "It's all about celebrating and honoring my tradition."
Everyone is welcome to this activity; The American Powwow committee charges $5 to watch. In addition, there is traditional native dinner, $10 for per person. The American Powwow is held by different native tribes every year. University of Idaho wishes you will attend next American Powwow.
